A Modular Workspace That Promotes Free-Roaming Productivity

The 2010s have been a decade marked by workplace innovation. From the demise of the the cubicle to the rise of the Skype call, employees and employers alike continue to seek out the balance between comfort and productivity. Taking note of this quest, West Coast workspace Mod offers free-roaming agents a modular workspace driven by technology and fueled for productivity.

Most recently the Mod team has joined forces with Front Coffee of Potrero Hill, San Fransisco to bring the on-demand workspace to the startup city. The pop-up space is an extension of Mod’s office space in Phoenix, and while both spaces strive to retain a touch of local flair, they are supported with cutting-edge technology and accessible hospitality. Tapping designer firms including the likes of Artifox and DeVorm for custom fittings for their space, Mod allows its workers to create custom spaces with modular white boards and storage units.

In a market that is dominated with networking houses and temporary work spaces, the WeWorks and Soho Houses of the socially inclined, the Mod experience appeals to the individuals and on-the-go workers—those seeking immediate, on-demand working options.

We caught up with Jamie Shaw, Director of Brand Experiences for Mod to get a sense of what informs the Mod experience.

“We started with questions about what people need, want and miss when they’re on the go. Our members and users realize when they come here that Mod is so much more than a space. They join us at happy hours and talk about their work and their goals, and often, we end up curating an experience to help them along.”

Pulling from the simple notion of “productivity,” a team of designers, architects, storytellers, technologists and culinary pros looked at the mobile workday holistically to think about an entire cycle of experience, not just one-off pain points.

Beyond desks and Wi-Fi, Mod offers a designed space as well as accessibility to a concierge all of which can be billed digitally. With the ability to book spaces hourly, daily or monthly (and cost efficiently) through the ease of an application, users can find comfort in Mod whether they seek solace from corporate offices or a sanctuary for client meetings.

As corporate culture continues to evolve with technology, taking on traits of startups, the Mod team hopes to expand, offering a consistent experience from city to city so users can love the way they work no matter where they are.
